HAPPY IS HE WHO FORGETS. Highlights from the operetta \u201cDie Fledermaus\u201d (music: Johann Strauss Jr.) were first arranged on behalf of OPER GRAZ for the children's concert \u201c76 Trombones\u201d for trombone ensemble (conductor: David Luidold) and subsequently adapted for wind orchestra.<\/p>\n

The sequence of excerpts is as follows:<\/p>\n

Beginning with the unmistakable opening bars of the operetta's overture, the arrangement jumps to the waltz theme (also from the overture) and culminates in the duet from the first act (Rosalinde\/Alfred) \u201cTrinke Liebchen, trinke schnell (...)\u201d (\u201cDrink, my dear, drink quickly...\u201d). later in the text it says \u201cHappy is he who forgets what cannot be changed.\u201d The arrangement jumps to the famous couplet (Orlovsky) from the second act \u201cIch lade gern mir G\u00e4ste ein\u201d (I like to invite guests), followed by the couplet (Adele) \u201cSpiel ich die Unschuld vom Lande\u201d (I play the innocent country girl) from the third act. Finally, the finale from the second act \u201cIm Feuerstrom der Reben\u201d (In the fire stream of the vines) follows.<\/p>\n

Die Fledermaus is full of incredibly catchy and beautiful melodies, but due to many difficult passages and also the length of the piece (e.g. the complete overture), excerpts from this operetta are rarely found in the repertoire of wind orchestras. This arrangement invites you to devote yourself to the beautiful melodies of Die Fledermaus for a short time. It is intended to whet your appetite for an evening at an opera house that has this operetta in its repertoire (e.g., the Vienna Volksoper). The concert audience will definitely enjoy it, as this is one of the most successful stage works in music history.
