At the end of the 19th century, the oil pumpkin made itself at home in Styria. Pumpkin seed oil is pressed from the seeds, which are cleaned and roasted, using traditional methods. 2.5 to 3 kilograms of dried and roasted seeds are needed for one liter of pumpkin seed oil. That's a total of 30 to 40 pumpkins that have to be processed mechanically, but sometimes also by hand. It's not surprising that people talk about the green gold of Styria.
About the music:
In the introductory first eight bars, the signature of the Styrian oil-spill communities can be heard, which leads directly into the opening bars of the march. The theme in the flugelhorns and tenor horns describes the Styrian spirit, the trumpets the positive work energy, while the sixteenth-note runs in the flutes/oboes symbolize both the trickling of the harvested kernels and the flowing kernel oil. The famous Hallelujah by G. F. Handel is also quoted for the first time. From bar 36, the pure joy of life of the people of this region is to be expressed, then the trio describes the deep love of the beautiful landscape in a hymn-like manner. At the end, the Hallelujah by G. F. Handel can be heard again - of course, this stands for gratitude. Gratitude for everything beautiful and of course also for the precious Styrian pumpkin seed oil, the green gold of Styria.
