Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Bruckner packed into a solo concerto for baritone (tenor horn) and wind orchestra.
Concertino in one movement for tenor horn/euphonium solo + wind band
Commissioned work by the Polizeimusik OÖ, Dr Harald Haselmayr.
The concert is in D minor, but is entitled A.S. major. – Concertino in one Movement. As is well known, A-flat major has 4b accidentals – in this case, however, the four B’s refer to: Bruckner, Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, and themes or motifs from these composers are incorporated in the present piece. In detail, motifs from: Bruckner’s 4th Symphony, Bruckner’s 7th Symphony, Brahms’ 1st Symphony, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and Bach’s Toccata & Fugue can be heard (sometimes hidden in the “background”). The middle section is of course – to stay true to the “B” – a ballad. And ……. A.S. are also my initials ;).
The premiere took place on April 12, 2018 in the Brucknerhaus Linz.
